Disponible solo en inglés

De la Wiki de GuyanaHub. Última actualización 24 de octubre de 2026. Revisado el 24 de octubre de 2026.

Guyana's public holidays, how the moveable religious holidays are fixed each year, and the 2026 dates.

Guyana's holidays reflect its many faiths and histories: Christian, Hindu and Muslim festivals sit alongside Emancipation, Arrival Day, Independence and Republic Day.

How holidays are set

  • The Public Holidays Act, Cap. 19:07 names the core holidays, including Good Friday, Easter Monday, Labour Day (1 May), Christmas Day, 26 December, Phagwah, Deepavali, Eid-ul-Azha and Youman Nabi [1].
  • When some holidays fall on a Sunday, the Act moves the holiday to the next day [1].
  • The dates for Phagwah, Deepavali, Eid-ul-Azha and Youman Nabi change every year. The Minister must publish them in the Official Gazette before each one [1].
  • The Minister can also appoint extra or substitute holidays by Gazette notice [1]. The Ministry of Home Affairs posts these notices on its website [2].

The full 2026 list is from PwC Guyana's published office calendar, cross-checked against the Ministry of Home Affairs notices we could open [2][3]. Always check the Ministry's latest notice, because a holiday can be added or moved by Gazette.

2027: dates for the moveable holidays had not been gazetted when we checked. We will add them once the Ministry of Home Affairs publishes them.

Tips

  • Government offices, banks and schools close on public holidays [1].
  • For cheques and other negotiable instruments, the Act moves a payment due on a public holiday to the next day that is not a public holiday [1]. Ask your bank if unsure.
