De la Wiki de GuyanaHub. Última actualización 24 de octubre de 2026. Revisado el 24 de octubre de 2026.

Where and how to get Guyana's main identity documents: the GECOM National ID card, the new Digital Identity Card (e-ID), the passport, and a driver's licence, with published fees.

Fees and steps were checked on 24 October 2026. Beware of fake websites and agents who charge for free services. Use only the official sites linked here.

National ID card (GECOM)

The Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) registers people under the National Registration Act and issues the National Identification Card.

  • Cost: free. GECOM says no one needs to pay anything for any registration transaction, including the issue of a National ID card [1].
  • GECOM issues ID cards to Guyanese citizens, and to Commonwealth citizens for voting purposes [3]. GECOM's FAQ and office details are on its website [2].
  • Contact: 41 High and Cowan Streets, Kingston, Georgetown; +592 225-0277-9 [2].

Digital Identity Card (e-ID)

The Digital Identity Card Registry (DICR) issues a separate smart card with a chip, under the Digital Identity Card Act, 19 of 2023 [3].

  • Who: citizens aged 14 and older [3]. Non-citizens with a work permit or CSME certificate can get a Resident Identity Card through the DICR unit at the Passport Office [3].
  • Bring originals (not laminated). For citizens born in Guyana: a Guyana birth certificate and a GECOM ID card, valid Guyana passport, or valid Guyana travel document. Other citizens bring Form F, a certificate of registration or naturalisation, or an adoption certificate [3].
  • Proof of address dated within the last six months (a driver's licence is also accepted), in the same name as your documents [3].
  • Steps: visit a Service Centre, enrol (photo and fingerprints), wait to be contacted, then collect your card [3].
  • Service centres listed include Campbellville (Georgetown), Anna Regina, Leonora, Fort Wellington, Port Mourant, Bartica and Lethem, with Regions 1, 8 and 10 "coming soon" [3].
  • Contact: WhatsApp or phone +592-710-3427 (710-DICR), info@e-id.gov.gy [3].
  • No fee is shown on the DICR site, so check with the Registry.

Passport

  • Apply online. Since 1 October 2026, passport applications are online and appointment-based. Walk-ins are no longer accepted. The official platform is pp.gpf.gov.gy. The authorities warn that fake websites exist [4].
  • Fees: G$6,000 for a five-year ordinary passport, G$12,000 for ten years [5].
  • The new e-passport has a chip, and all applicants give fingerprints [5].
  • An expedited service can deliver a passport within 24 hours for an extra fee, and there is an at-home service for the elderly and people with disabilities [4]. The expedited fee was not stated, so check with the Passport Office.
