Doing business in Guyana
Disponible solo en inglés
A plain-language starting point for opening a business in Guyana. Which office does what, the usual order of steps, and links to every official page. General information only, not legal or tax advice.
Please read first. This section is general information to help you find the right office. It is not legal, tax or accounting advice. Fees, forms and rules change. Always confirm with the office before you pay, and speak with an attorney-at-law or a qualified accountant about your own situation. Every fact below shows its source and the date we checked it (24 October 2026). Where we could not confirm a fee or step on an official page, we say "check with the office".

The usual order of steps
The Ministry of Tourism, Industry and Commerce shows a similar sequence on its "Doing Business" page: business plan, register the business, TIN, NIS, then electricity connection and grants [8]. GRA says that after you register with the Deeds/Commercial Registry, your next stop should be GRA [9].
- Decide your structure. A registered business name (sole trader or partnership) or an incorporated company. See Business name or company.
- Get a TIN from GRA. DCRA's business name page lists a copy of your TIN certificate as a required document [1]. See TIN and VAT.
- Register with DCRA. Business name: G$5,000. Company: G$60,000 prescribed fee plus G$3,200 notices and G$350 mandatory copy, as published by DCRA [1][10].
- Register with NIS if you will employ anyone, or as a self-employed person [3]. See NIS and employing staff.
- Check VAT. Registration is compulsory once taxable supplies reach G$15,000,000 in 12 months or are expected to [11].
- Get the licences your trade needs. Trade licence, sanitary certificate, fire safety certificate, and any sector permit. See Licences and permits.
- Protect your brand with a trademark if it matters to you. See Trademarks.
- Open a business bank account. See Business bank accounts.
- Look at support. SBB, GO-Invest and, for oil and gas suppliers, the Local Content Register. See Support for businesses.
