Income tax in 2026

GRA's notice on the Income Tax (Amendment) Act No. 3 of 2026, effective 1 January 2026, sets these rules for employed and self-employed individuals [1]:

Personal allowance (free pay)

  • G$140,000 a month (G$1,680,000 a year), or one third of income, whichever is greater.

Tax rates on chargeable income

  • 25% on the first G$3,360,000 a year (G$280,000 a month).
  • 35% on anything above that.

Other deductions for employees [1]

Deduction Limit
NIS contribution 5.6% of gross pay, up to G$15,680 a month
Medical and life insurance premiums Premiums paid, 10% of gross pay, or G$50,000 a month, whichever is less
Each child under 18 G$10,000 a month
Second job First G$50,000 a month
Overtime First G$50,000 a month

Example from GRA [1]: a monthly salary of G$150,000 with one job. Allowance G$140,000 plus NIS G$8,400 leaves chargeable income of G$1,600. Tax at 25% is G$400 for the month.

Filing a return

  • GRA says a return is required where income is not less than G$1,680,000 a year [1].
  • GRA's 2026 notice asks employees and the self-employed to submit insurance premium statements with their return by 30 April 2027 [1]. Employers must give each employee a 7B form (statement of earnings) [1].
  • You can file and view your account online through GRA eServices [2]. You need a TIN first; see TIN and VAT.

NIS for individuals

  • Employees pay 5.6% of wages, and employers add 8.4%, up to a ceiling of G$280,000 a month [3].
  • Cover is compulsory for people aged 16 to 60 in insurable work. The self-employed pay 12.5% of declared income. People who leave work before 60 can continue as voluntary contributors at 9.3% [3].
  • NIS benefits include old age, invalidity, survivors', funeral, sickness, maternity and industrial injury benefits. The claim forms are on the NIS downloads page [4].
  • From 1 January 2025, the minimum old age and invalidity pension is G$43,075 a month, and the minimum survivor's pension is G$21,537 a month [5].
  • Pensioners living abroad file an overseas life certificate (form P300F51) [4].
