Every child can study

The Ministry of Education has a Migrant Education Support Unit (MESU).
In January 2025, the Ministry said more than 4,000 migrant students were enrolled in public schools.
According to the Ministry, no birth certificate or other documents are needed to enrol a migrant child. You simply turn up at a school near your home.
Enrolled students get the same benefits, such as free learning materials and cash grants.

The Ministry said there are more than 40 after-school English as a Second Language (ESL) classes for migrant students.
It has run ESL summer classes in Regions 1, 2, 3, 4, 7 and 9.
The Examinations Unit prepares exams in Spanish for migrant students. Ask the school whether your child can use this option.

Go to the nearest public school with your child.
Bring any papers you have, such as old report cards or the vaccination card. If you have none, go anyway.
Ask about ESL classes and the Migrant Education Support Unit.
If there is a waiting list, ask to be added and ask about other schools nearby.

BBC Learning English and USA Learns offer free English for the whole family.
