Documents, registration and e-ID
This is not immigration or legal advice. Every case is different and rules change. For decisions about your situation, contact Immigration, the Legal Aid Clinic or an attorney directly. GuyanaHub will never ask for your immigration status.
Who handles it?
- Immigration Support Services (ISS), part of the Ministry of Home Affairs, handles visas, extensions of stay and employment visas.
- Online portal: https://eservices.iss.gov.gy/
- Help line for online applications: (592) 223-5210.
What you can do online
- Visitor visa extension: to ask for more time. https://eservices.iss.gov.gy/visitor-visa-extension
- Employment visa: the application asks for your passport, a photo, a contract or letter of employment, a police clearance and a medical report. https://eservices.iss.gov.gy/employment-visa
- When you submit, you get a reference number to check the status. Keep it safe.
Registration of Venezuelans
- Since 2019, the Government has registered Venezuelans with UNHCR support.
- That registration gave a Household Registration Certificate with a renewable three-month stay permit.
- To find out the procedure today, check with Immigration directly. Rules may have changed.
The e-ID card
- In October 2025, the Ministry of Home Affairs announced that foreign nationals must register and get an e-ID card.
- The Government said a grace period would be given for registration.
- The Government says the card will be needed to access services. You apply by appointment, online or at a service centre.
- Check who must apply and what to bring on the official portal: https://e-id.gov.gy/
Practical tips
- Make copies of your documents and keep photos somewhere safe.
- Never hand over your passport to an employer, a "fixer" or anyone who is not an official authority.
- Be wary of anyone offering to "fix papers" for money. Only official offices issue documents.
- If a document is not in English, ask whether you need a translation.
